You've been carrying the same bag by hand for months, or the strap it came with is fraying at the edges, or it's just never sat right on your shoulder. You've thought about ordering a strap to fix it more times than you'd like to admit.
We get why you've hesitated. A strap is a small thing to order and a big thing to get wrong, it sits right where everyone can see it, on a bag you actually care about. You're trusting a stranger's product photos to get the fit, the leather and the hardware right before it ever touches your bag. That's a fair thing to be careful about, so here's what we'd actually tell a friend to check.
What to look for in a leather bag strap
- Fit built for your bag, not a rough estimate. A strap cut for the exact hardware your bag uses will sit the way it's meant to. A generic one is guessing on your behalf.
- Genuine leather, not coated canvas or faux leather dressed up in good lighting. Real leather ages into something better. Faux leather just ages.
- Hardware that actually matches. Gold next to gold-toned, or silver next to a slightly different silver, is one of those small mismatches that's hard to unsee once you've noticed it.
- A length that matches how you actually carry the bag. Shoulder and crossbody are not the same drop, and "one size" is rarely either one properly.
- No permanent changes to the bag. A strap worth buying clips on through hardware your bag already has, and comes off just as easily if you change your mind.
- Something that holds up in real weather. Singapore humidity is not kind to fabric straps. Leather, kept dry, handles it far better.
Get these right and the rest takes care of itself, the strap looks like it was always meant to be there, not added on afterwards.

What we've brought in
We went looking for straps that actually solved this instead of just looking nice in photos, and ended up making our own. Both are cut from full-grain cattlehide with a pebbled grain, come in gold or silver hardware, and are available in four fixed lengths, 53cm and 67cm for a shorter shoulder carry, 85cm and 100cm if you want it worn crossbody, so you're picking a drop that suits you instead of settling for whatever came standard.
We started with two bags whose owners kept asking us for exactly this. The Wren loops through the Picotin's top handle and gives it a hands-free option it was never designed with. The Margo attaches through the Evelyne's existing strap rings and swaps the original canvas for leather that actually matches the bag's own grain, with the option to sit higher than the stock strap ever allowed.
If you carry a different bag entirely, the same checklist above still applies before you buy anywhere, fit, real leather, matching hardware, a length that's actually yours to choose.

A few quick answers
How do I know what length to pick?
As a rough guide, 53 to 67cm sits as a short shoulder strap and 85 to 100cm is long enough to wear crossbody. If you're unsure, measuring a strap you already own against these is the easiest way to check.
Will a leather strap work on a bag other than the Evelyne or Picotin?
The same fit, material and hardware checklist applies no matter what you carry, so yes, as long as the strap is built for your bag's actual hardware rather than a generic fit.
How long does delivery take?
Both the Wren and Margo are made to order, so allow roughly two to three weeks from the date of purchase before it ships.
Who this is for
- Anyone who's been carrying a bag by hand because the strap situation was never right
- Anyone whose current strap is fraying, stretching or just never matched the bag
- Anyone who's ordered a "universal" strap before and felt the difference the moment it arrived
- Gift buyers looking for something for the friend who already has the bag but not the strap that actually suits it
One more thing
If a strap is on your list, the inside of the bag is probably next. We wrote about the same kind of "quietly annoying" problem from a different angle in Do You Need a Bag Organizer? Here's How to Tell, worth a read if your bag looks tidy for about as long as it takes you to leave the house.
